The East Garner Elementary community will work collaboratively to provide a positive, purposeful, and rigorous learning environment so that students become responsible, productive and successful citizens in a changing world.
This is Principal Graf with a message about our upcoming week:
I hope that you are safe and warm during the snow of 2017! I am uncertain about the decision for school tomorrow so please stay tuned to local media stations. Please know that the District announces any decision for late arrival or closure to the local media stations first, then on the district website and the district Twitter account. The East Garner ES Twitter account retweets any information from WCPSS to notify the parent and community followers. The school Class Dojo account is being utilized, but it is not the primary source of school delay or closure information.
In the event of a 2 hour delay: Students may enter the building at 10:45 a.m. The tardy bell will ring at 11:15. Breakfast will not be served. Lunch will run on the regular schedule.
In the event of a 3 hour delay: Students may enter the building at 11:45 a.m. The tardy bell will ring at 12:15. No breakfast or Specials. Lunch schedule will be modified and lunch will be in classrooms.
On another note, it’s enrollment time for all rising Kindergarten students. To learn about the requirements for new children entering school, following the link: http://wcpss.net/domain/4416 to access the district site. Parents need to be prepared in order to successfully enroll a child in Kindergarten. You can view and complete the process by clicking on the above link. Below is a summary of the process:
Students must be five years old on or before Aug. 31 of the current school year to start kindergarten.
1. Download and complete the enrollment forms for your child's grade level. The required form is included in the links below. (Note: students must sign up for bus service when enrolling.)
Download packet for incoming Kindergartners
Download packet for incoming students, grades 1-5
Download packet for incoming students, grades 6-12
2. Gather these materials:
A certified copy of your child's birth certificate
Proof of your Wake County address (current water, gas, or electric bill in parent's name that is no more than 30 days old, newly signed lease that is no more than 60 days old, settlement statement or offer-to-purchase agreement*)
A photo ID of the parent or guardian
Your child's immunization record
Any custody documents
3. Visit your child's base school to enroll. We recommend calling ahead to learn office hours.
4. State law requires that every child entering public schools in N.C. for the first time receive a health assessment. The assessment must occur within 12 months prior to entering school. The medical provider, parent or guardian must provide a completed health assessment form to the school on or before the child's first day of attendance. Health assessment forms are also available at Wake County schools, area doctors' offices or at the Wake County Health Department.
