    Happy December Leopards!
We hope that each and every one of you had a safe and happy Thanksgiving break and that the
return to school has been a smooth and happy transition.
It was wonderful to see so many educational learning experiences the past few weeks and we
are looking forward to a few more that will be taking place prior to the start of 2016. Be sure to
check with your child to discuss the learning objective of each of these learning experiences that
    are taking place.
Teachers at Lead Mine were excited to review the progress that students made from the beginning
of the school year throughout the first nine weeks of instruction. Teachers at each grade
level reviewed quarterly assessments to determine the strengths that each child is exhibiting.
Tomorrow morning will be our 2nd Walk to School day for the 2016-2017 school year. Families
will be meeting near Sola Café in the Greystone Village Shopping Center to walk to school with
Leo the Leopard, staff, and family.
Thank you Ms. Stephens for the hard work that went into the Lead Mine Elementary Writing Contest
the past few weeks. The contest came to a close this past Saturday at the Barnes and Noble
at Triangle Town Center. We are so proud of all the participants and those who were announced
as winners. It was a great community event and we loved seeing everyone out on a Saturday
with Santa celebrating our writer’s and preparing for the holiday season.
We will continue to be work throughout all grade levels to focus on “I can” statements with students
during each school day so that they will best understand the learning objective for each
subject every day. We hope that these “I can” statements will help to make dinner/evening conversations
about the school day easier for everyone.
Thank you to each family who continues to work with students on reading 20-30 minutes each
evening. We have been talking during staff events on much growth we are seeing with students
in their reading fluency and comprehension.
    Have a great week,
    Mr. Marcin
