West Millbrook’s first musical opens THIS week! Performances of “Shrek the Musical Jr.” are Thursday, May 8th at 7pm and Friday, May 9th at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased at the links below! They are $7 and must be purchased online.

Visual Art Show on Monday. Our Wildcats artists have created some amazing work this year! Come see it on display in our media center and cafe. Our show is an open house floating show, so drop in anytime between 5:00 and 6:30 on Monday! Don’t forget to check out the origami display in our main lobby!
Year 1 Math Teacher Beverly Keane was celebrated as the Rack Room Shoes Teacher of the Year at a surprise assembly last Wednesday! Ms. Keane received a $500 gift card to Rack Room Shoes and West Millbrook received a $10,000 technology grant from Rack Room Shoes!
Congratulations to Anna Barnette who is a Finalist in the 2025 North Carolina Aviation Art Contest!
Year 3 Community Project Showcase was celebrated last Thursday. We are so proud of our Year 3 students and their capstone projects! Thank you to the many parents who attended our student presentations! We loved having you on campus to participate in the significant work our Year 3 students have completed on their IBMYP journey!
EOG/EOC testing begins on Monday, June 2. A schedule of which tests will be administered on which day will be shared week of May 12. Students who do not earn a proficient score on the EOG/EOC and meet the criteria for our EOG/ EOC Remediation and Readministration program will receive an invitation to participate in Remediation and Readministration on June 16 and June 17. Transportation will be provided, and breakfast and lunch will be available.

The inaugural French Society Showcase was hosted in our media center April 23 followed by a field trip to Simply Crepes on April 30. Congratulations to these students for their outstanding performance in French!

StarMath Assessments will be administered at all grade levels this week!
Last Thursday, West Millbrook celebrated ESL Teacher Leah Harkness, West Millbrook’s 2025 Teacher of the Year, and ECS teacher Molly Todd, the WCPSS Diane Kent Parker First Year Teacher of the Year, at the WCPSS Teacher of the Year Banquet at the Raleigh Convention Center! PTA President Emily Stagg joined Ms. Aman and our honorees for this special occasion.
Asian Pacific Islander Desi American Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month are celebrated in May as we recognize the significant contributions they have made to society, culture and history in our country!
National Nurses Day is celebrated on Tuesday, May 6. West Millbrook is fortunate to have Ms. Lynn as our school nurse!
National Interpreter Appreciation Day, which includes ASL interpreters, is celebrated on May 7th. We are grateful for Zelissa Thomas and the vital role she serves in facilitating communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
School Lunch Hero Week is celebrated May 5 – 9. We appreciate Ms. Vandewalker, Ms. Jeffreys, Ms. Bodnarchuk and Ms. Lewis for all they do to ensure our students have breakfast and lunch every day!

Congratulations to all students who performed at Wildcats Got Talent 2025 last Thursday. Johana Sanchez-Hernandez won Crowd Favorite. Luke Barfoot won Most Creative. And Katherine Butterfield took home the grand prize Best in Show for her rendition of Fight Song by Rachel Platten!! Special thanks to last year’s winner Tiana Baldwin for closing out the show!
Quarter 3 Celebrations were held last Friday! Thanks to the PTA for supporting this event where we celebrated our Quarter 3 Honor Roll recipients, our IB Learner Profile Trait recognitions and other accomplishments! It’s great fun to celebrate so many outstanding students at West Millbrook Magnet Middle School.

NC CheckIns for Year 1 Reading will be administered this week.
Wildcats Got Talent 2025 will be held this Thursday 4/24 after school from 4.00-5.00pm in the gym. It is free and students who plan to attend can stay after school. Please pick your child up outside of the gym at 5.00pm. If your child is performing at the Talent Show, you are welcome to come and watch them!
Report cards were issued last week. Please make certain you’ve reviewed your child’s 3Q report card.
Quarter 3 Celebrations will be held on Friday! We are so excited to recognize our students for honor roll, IB Learner Profile Traits and other academic accomplishments!
Year 3 Team Day to work on Community Project and Reality of Money are scheduled for Thursday. We are thrilled for the return of Reality of Money, presented by State Employees Credit Union and are so excited to bring back this career development activity for our students. We truly appreciate our partnership (20+ years) with SECU!!Administrative Professional’s Appreciation Week is celebrated April 21 – 25. West Millbrook has 5 outstanding administrative professionals who support our school and our families so well! Overdue Library Books!! We need your help. If your child has any overdue or lost library books, a notice will be sent home with report cards. Please help your child look for these books and remind them to return their books as soon as possible. There are some students with books from previous years. It is never too late to return a book! Increase in highly caffeinated energy drinks – Our faculty/staff have noticed a significant increase in these drinks at West Millbrook in the past few weeks. Some of these drinks such as Alani have over 200 mg of caffeine (double that found in a normal cup of coffee) and many of them resemble sparkling water brands.
Carpool Procedure Reminders as we enter the last quarter of the school year!! How did we get here so quickly?

If you found any gently used spirit wear to donate to the student services department over break, our PTA will host another collection on the Monday after spring break (April 7). Students may drop donated spirit wear off as they arrive on campus at both the bus/walker entrance and carpool entrance. Thanks for considering.
National Assistant Principal Week is celebrated April 7 – 11! West Millbrook is fortunate to have 3 excellent school administrators supporting students, families and teachers. Mr. Robinson, Mr. Collins and Mr. Livengood are so appreciated for all that they do!
School Library Media Coordinator Day was celebrated last Friday, April 4. West Millbrook is fortunate to have 2 amazing media specialists – Ms. McCoin and Ms. Counts!
Occupational Therapist Appreciation Month is celebrated in April. Ms. Sculley serves as our occupational therapist and we appreciate all that she does to support students and their teachers!

Student Council News Our annual talent show, Wildcats Got Talent 2025 will be held on Thursday April 24th from 4.00-5.00pm. It is free to attend, and students can stay after school. If your child would like to tryout, they need to complete the form in their grade level Canvas by this Tuesday April 8th. Important dates are below:

Para leer este mensaje en español, haga clic aquí.Spring Break begins on Friday, March 28 at 3pm. School resumes on Monday, April 7 at 8:15am. I hope all Wildcats have a safe and happy break! The next family message will be sent on April 6. Also, if you are cleaning out closets and drawers during spring break and find any gently used spirit wear to donate to the student services department, our PTA will host another collection on the Monday after spring break (April 7). Thanks for considering.
Quarter 3 ends on Friday 3/28. Report cards will be issued on April 15.
NC CheckIns for Math 6 and Math 8 will be administered this week.
Student Council News Thursday March 27th, Student Council is holding a Tropical Thursday Spirit Day in honor of Spring Break! Your child can participate by wearing their tropical themed clothing and accessories. Regular dress code rules apply.
Our annual talent show, Wildcats Got Talent 2025 will be held on Thursday April 24th from 4.00-5.00pm. It is free to attend, and students can stay after school. Important dates for interested performers are below:
March 27th - April 8th - Tryout form will be in each grade level's Canvas. This must be submitted to tryout.
Thursday April 10th - Tryouts will be held after school in the Media Centre.
Tuesday April 22nd - talent show rehearsal after school
Thursday April 24th - Wildcats Got Talent 2025!
Help West Millbrook and Ms. Keane win a $10,000 grant for the school! A parent nominated Ms. Keane for the Rack Room Teacher of the Year award. Voting is open til April 5 and each person can vote once a day. The prize is a $10,000 technology award for the school! No registration is required to vote but they made it a little complicated to find her entry. At the top, you need to use the little search tool and type "Raleigh"...and then four teachers filter out and she's one of them. It doesn't let you search by name or school, unfortunately.

Congratulations to Braxton Cretarolo, Carter Roadman and Gabe Lopez who will have work exhibited at the North Carolina Museum of Arts from 3/18 – 4/13 as part of the Raleigh Arts Council and City of Raleigh Arts Commission Gifts of Gold! Student artists will also be recognized at a reception on April 10 at 6pm. I am so proud of these artists and the many talented artists at West Millbrook!

Increase in highly caffeinated energy drinks – Our faculty/staff have noticed a significant increase in these drinks at West Millbrook in the past few weeks. Some of these drinks such as Alani have over 200 mg of caffeine (double that found in a normal cup of coffee) and many of them resemble sparkling water brands.

You may register for one or multiple camps. All camps are $160 per athlete, per sport, per week. You can register your child for two camps a day on the weeks where they are available ($160 each) along with “Cat Care” - supervision between am and pm camps ($15) for a total of $335.
